Hi there! I’m Cynthia, and I’m very glad you’re here. As an adventuring woman, do I run around jumping off cliffs and such? Nope. “Adventure” means something different for everyone, and I want to encourage all of you, especially other women 50+, to embrace adventure.

Whether that’s planning a US road trip, hopping on a plane for your first foray abroad, or seeking out local gems right in your own home town, I’m here to help you create your own adventures on the road.

I’ve just changed up the look and organization of my website. Please bear with me as I work out a few glitches. If you have feedback or suggestions, I’d love to hear. You can contact me at Cynthia@adventuringwoman.com.

When I conceived the site in the spring of 2017, I envisioned a solo female travel blog. Since then, things have changed: I’m no longer single (much to my surprise). After becoming disinterested in dating and interested in focusing on my single adventures, I met someone, we clicked, and we’ve now been together 6 years.

I still travel solo, and love it, but we also travel together (most recently to her home country of Thailand). Whether traveling solo or with someone else, my preference is to travel and plan travel independently, without a group tour or a travel agent. I encourage you to travel however works for you, but if you want to travel independently I’ll have some tips to help.

Initially, I wanted to share my excitement about my upcoming travels and share travel stories about places I’ve been (Going Into Anaphylactic Shock in India and Getting Bummed Out in Rome). I had planned to travel solo to mainland Southeast Asia in early 2018. That changed. Since my partner is Thai, Southeast Asia is no longer a once-in-a-lifetime destination, but somewhere we’ll likely end up retiring to.

I hope to be an ambassador for my beautiful state, Minnesota, and city, Minneapolis, as well as the vastly underrated Midwest. Join me as I stuff myself with foods on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair. Explore the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with me. Come on a Minnesota road trip to the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior, Madeline Island in Wisconsin, or to the birthplace of the Mississippi River in Itasca State Park.

I was lucky enough to make my first visit to New York City during the 2017 holiday season, and I’ve since been back 3 times. I love New York, and I want to help you love it too. Check out some of my popular NYC posts: Visiting Ancient Egypt at the Met, where I explore the Temple of Dendur and the Met’s incredible Egyptian Galleries; Calling on the Woman in Gold, going to see the Lady in Gold painting made famous by the film starring Helen Mirren; In Love with the New York Public Library, all about the beautiful NYPL (a great tourist attraction that’s completely free!); or learn all about New York during the holidays in New York City is Crazy for Christmas.

When I started the blog, I also wanted to talk about other interesting things, like what I was reading, the travails of midlife dating, and relationships in general. The dating and relationships part of the blog has remained small (Ghosting and Other Unpleasant Dating Phenomena and 10 Suspicious Things To Watch Out For In Online Dating Profiles). Travel writing, especially food travel and cultural travel, has become my focus.

In the past, I traveled extensively with a partner. Once I was on my own, I felt stuck. When I started this blog, I had decided I was not going to let being on my own stop me from doing what I really wanted to do—whether that was something as small as going to a movie or a concert by myself, or as big as traveling solo to Southeast Asia. Those sentiments still apply. Whether you are single or partnered, I urge you:

Let’s live life to the fullest, and to hell with waiting around.

Cynthia
